Abstract

The introduction of effective vaccines against an increasing number of infectious diseases has had a major impact on the mortality and morbidity of many diseases. Small pox has already been eradicated and the eradication of polio is in sight. However, it is important that people do not forget the suffering that these conditions may cause, otherwise immunization rates may fall with a concomitant re-emergence of the diseases.
