Disorders of the adrenal cortex in childhood

Abstract 

The adrenal cortex is involved in steroid hormone biosynthesis and produces mineralocorticoid, glucocorticoid and androgen hormones. This article will review common clinical scenarios caused by disorders of the adrenal cortex, including: Cushing syndrome, primary adrenal insufficiency (Addison disease), endocrine hypertension, congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and premature virilization.
