The future of paediatric training in the United Kingdom – the trainees’ perspective

Abstract 

This paper offers an analysis of paediatric training in the UK. It dissects the problems and makes suggestions for improvements under the following headings: who are the trainees?, flexible training, laws, basic specialist training, higher specialist training, service work as education, technical skills, appropriate work for a trainee?, protected teaching time, study leave, appraisal, assessment and competence, and finally, future paediatric service delivery.
