Abstract

The goal of every neonatal transport is to improve the outcome in a critically ill infant who is not near to a hospital that provides the required level of intensive care. The organization and safety of an acute neonatal retrieval therefore require careful planning and meticulous stabilization procedures, underpinned by good teamwork, clear communication between the referral hospital and specialist retrieval team and a programme of continuous training for team members. Only then can a transport service achieve clinical excellence.
