Ethical principles of research with children
Summary
Good research with children is critical for the advancement of their care. Research must be properly performed whether it is therapeutic or non-therapeutic. The sanction of a properly constituted Ethics Advisory Committee should be in place before any research project is started. Consent in research with children is given by the parents, but in non-therapeutic research the child's assent is also mandatory, though this is not absolute in therapeutic research.
